Robert Parks Article for Fluoride
Speaking as a dentist from Humboldt County I wholeheartedly support the use of fluoride in the public drinking water. Fluoridated water has been proven to be an effective deterrent to tooth decay, especially for those who dont get fluoride from any other source.
I have had patients who were worried that fluoride was not beneficial to them and ceased using it. On subsequent visits from these patients I found substantial and sometimes rampant decay occurring due to the cessation of fluoride use.
I highly recommend the use of fluoride in the public water systems because it is safe as well as effective. The impact of deteriorating dental health on communities from lack of fluoride is both fiscally burdensome and physically devastating to the young, poor, and elderly.

| The fact is that I started out as somewhat skeptical and cautious about fluoridation. But then I became a firm believer as proof was assembled by scientists that fluoridation of a water supply will reduce the production of tooth cavities (our most prevalent disease) by 60%, and, just as important, that no disease or defect is caused by this procedure. What particularly allayed my early doubts about adding a chemical to public water supplies was learning that fluoride has always occurred naturally in water supplies. Dr. Benjamin Spock |
